Meek Mill Says He's Off Probation, No Longer a Felon - XXLMAG.COM

It looks like Meek Mill has just gotten the legal outcome he was fighting for.

On Wednesday (July 24), Meek used his Instagram account to announce that he's no longer on probation. "As of right now I’m not on probation and I am not a felon anymore 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 today was mega!!!"

For his post, Meek screenshotted an article from Philadelphia's local Fox affiliate, Fox 29, which reported that the rapper was granted a new trial for his 2008 gun and drugs conviction after he appeared in front of the Pennsylvania Superior Court last week.

Meek had been in court in an effort to have his 2008 gun and drugs conviction overturned and get a new trial without the involvement of Judge Genece Brinkley, who was presiding over his case. Brinkley denied Meek's attempt to overturn the conviction in July 2018 and has long been accused of being biased against the rapper. Now, he will get a new trial, and prosecutors could even decide not to pursue the charges against him anymore.

In a statement, Meek speaks more on the news while also giving thanks to people that supported him through this whole ordeal.

“I’d like to thank the Pennsylvania Superior Court judges for their wisdom and transparency in reviewing my case, unanimously overturning my conviction and granting me a new trial," Meek says in the statement. "The past 11 years have been mentally and emotionally challenging, but I’m ecstatic that justice prevailed. This positive outcome wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family, my attorneys, Jay-Z, Desiree Perez, Michael Rubin, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and my supporters who have stood with me through the ups and downs. Unfortunately, millions of people are dealing with similar issues in our country and don’t have the resources to fight back like I did. We need to continue supporting them. I’m committed to working with my team at the Reform Alliance to change these outdated laws and fix our broken criminal justice system.”

Meek's request to overturn the original 2008 case stems from the controversy surrounding his arresting officer Reginald Graham. Graham has been implicated in multiple police corruption scandals in the city of Philadelphia. He reportedly testified that Meek had pointed a gun at officers when he was arrested, and when Meek denied the claims, Graham's partner, Jerold Gibson, corroborated Meek's side of the story.

Other cases involving Graham have since been overturned since news of his corruption scandals came out. In June 2018, Judge Brinkley denied the MMG rapper's effort to get a new trial.
