Quentin Tarantino has a long history of setting his movies in Los Angeles, and the writer/director's new film might be the most L.A. yet. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood serves up an ode to late '60s L.A., and the first trailer just dropped.

Watch it here (warning: contains adult language):

This teaser doesn't tell us a lot about the movie's story, but we get a flavor of some of the movie's main characters — with others only being caught in glimpses. There's that trademark Tarantino vibe, a dose of comedy over everything with violence always waiting just below the surface.

You also get some beauty shots of Hollywood Boulevard landmarks like the Cinerama Dome, today part of the ArcLight Hollywood theater.

"I've been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was 7 years old," Tarantino said in a press release last year. "I'm very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore."

We open the trailer being introduced to Leonardo DiCaprio as movie star Rick Dalton, with Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth, his longtime stuntman. They're reportedly loosely based on the relationship between Burt Reynolds and stuntman Hal Needham.

You also get Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate, famous victim of serial killer Charles Manson — she's fun and carefree, but we know the doom that awaits her. Manson himself (played by Damon Herriman) is only glimpsed in one shot — blink and you'll miss it, and you probably wouldn't even recognize that that's who you're looking at on first glance.

We see shots of DiCaprio and Pitt's characters in a series of films, including a scene with Pitt facing off against Mike Moh as kung fu film legend Bruce Lee. The whole thing gives you 1969 L.A. in a series of quick images, all scored in classic Tarantino style to the Los Bravos song "Bring A Little Lovin'."

The star list goes deep, with other actors set to appear in the film including Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Lena Dunham, the late Luke Perry, and more.

Here's how Tarantino's described the movie: "a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don't recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor...Sharon Tate"

The movie is set to be released July 26.
