Sam Hunt Arrested for DUI in Nashville - Taste of Country

Sam Hunt was arrested on Thursday morning (Nov. 21) on charges of driving under the influence and having an open container.

The country singer was pulled over after police responded to a report that a vehicle was going the wrong way down a street in East Nashville. Nashville's WKRN-TV reports that an officer on the scene said Hunt smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and tried to give his credit card when pressed for a driver's license.

An arrest warrant also reveals that his blood alcohol level was .173. The legal limit in Tennessee is .08.

Hunt was booked at Metro jail at about 6:30AM, the television station reports. Hunt was allegedly driving south in the northbound lanes of Ellington Parkway near Ben Allen Road and swerving in and out of his lane. Two empty beers were next to him and the "Kinfolks" singer admitted to drinking alcohol "recently" (per court documents obtained by WKRN).

Less than three hours later, the 34-year-old was released on a $2,500 bond. He'll appear in court on Jan. 17, 2020. WKRN's cameras caught him walking out of jail on Thursday morning after posting bond.

Hunt's arrest comes as he is making a comeback after one full year off as he wrote for his next studio album, the follow-up to the wildly successful Montevallo album. "Kinfolks" is a Top 20 hit and his first single in a year. "Body Like a Back Road" was released two years ago, becoming his biggest hit to date.

Talking to Taste of Country prior to the 2019 CMA Awards, Hunt shared that his new album will include plenty of heartbreak. In fact, "Kinfolks" may be his only new love song as it's still hard for him to write love songs, even after being married to Hannah Lee Fowler since 2017.
