Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer’s hidden reference to an old enemy - Polygon

If the trailers have been anything to go by, Spider-Man: Far From Home is going to be rife with tiny nods to Spider-Man comics past, from putting critical issue numbers on the sides of boats, to naming Venetian hotels after Spider-Man writers.

But today’s new trailer for the next Spider-Man flick also has a little indication that at least one character from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies is around in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Can you see it in the top image already?

Computer, enhance.

Crusher Hogan enters the ring

In a way that was kind of revolutionary at the time, Peter Parker’s origin story involved him getting superpowers but not immediately becoming a superhero. The cash-strapped teen instead tried to figure out a way to use his powers to support himself and his family, and one of those ways was by entering an exhibition match against the wrestler Crusher Hogan.

After the match, Peter stood by and watched as a thief made off with the box office take from the event. Later that day, the same thief shot his Uncle Ben, motivating Peter to take his mentor’s words to heart: With great power comes great responsibility.

Those events were included in 2001’s Spider-Man, albeit altered slightly. Peter fought a different wrestler in that movie, played by “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

In fact, computer, bone-hance.

Bonesaw is ready

Savage’s portrayal of Bonesaw McGraw was memorable, to say the least, and it looks like it’s being referenced just below Crusher Hogan’s name in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Will Crusher Hogan and Bonesaw have a larger presence in the movie — or just this cleverly placed background sign? We’ll have to wait until Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2.
